Week 8

Hey all,

Back again after a 2 week stint of teaching rounds...
More presentations today, and an intro into video.
Played around with the new cameras.

Also worked on a piece which has been inspired by the recent move by my dad to the middle east.. (Don't stress, he's a new Chief of staff somewhere - i can't tell you cos its a secret)

Thinking about how war can be close to home...

Took the image at the Carribean Markets and with some effects and other pictures was able to complete the final piece.

The use of the words in the font to make it relevant to all aussies!!!

Well.. I like it, and its got a special meaning in it for me...
And another one of My son at the guns on HMAS Castlemaine... just a bit more of the same.. keeping in theme...

See you next week

Week 7

Hey,

Well.. today there were more presentations of peoples initial outlines/proposals, and some more works were displayed and put up for criticism...

The range of styles and ideas being put forward by the class are very diverse, and very accomplished. The critique and display of some ideas are good for me to get ideas and inspiration for works of my own, and after a student demonstrated their proposal piece being a pac-man animation style work, Jenna showed us how to create our own animations, and as i'd always expected the process is very strenuous and time consuming... I have looked up some of the more amazing stop motion animations and will post them below...

Next 2 weeks are Block teaching rounds so the next blog will not be until week 10... Enjoy...

Week 6

Hello All Again,

Well first week back after the Break. Initial Presentation of work for criticism was today, and some very constructive criticism was received.
Realised that my previous works definately needed to have a boost in the portrayal of the city in a positive way, and that more of the images used should be from my own personal collections.

Also this week we have started playing with the WACOM tablets, and using them in Corel Painter.

With the tablets and the pens, I am able to add little touches to the images that i previously deemed too tedious. sich as writing, and even signing them at the bottom (Very cool).

After gathering the previous criticism and new techniques i have aquired, i have produced this image called City of Peace

This is a photo that I took on Australia Day 2010 and love the power in it... I made the background and the man figure the only thing in focus, as to draw the viewers attention to the person, as if they walk alone.

The nuances are the chalk on the ground, was added Via WACOM tablet, as was the signature at the bottom. I think the new techniques really brought out the idiology i had in mind for this image...

Week 4

In this weeks class we are exploring the functions and capabilities of digital camera's... and thank god, as i have been wondering what all those options in the menu were for...

Further developing my folio of the city of melbourne, i have played around with some more of the functions on photoshop and had a great time with a free image i found from flicker which is a Creative common.
This picture, whilst being so plain, is also perfect for what i needed it for, and that I have morphed it from its "Sleeping" state, and brought it to life!!
With the below image titled "City of Life"
City Of Life - Alec Baroni 22/03/2010 (adaptation from creative common)

Also whilst using the "Liquify" feature on photoshop, i was inspired to replicate a "Scream" (Edvard Munch) and Salvadore Dali style of image where some key features of FLINDERS STREET STATION were "melted" in a heatwave... the image was tricky to finalize, as i wanted it to appear as the peaks melted, whilst the rest of the structure remained in tact, so a lot of clicking, moving, setting was required to get to the final piece which i have named "Heatwave"... Enjoy..

ART PROPOSAL

“Melbomorphesis” – By Alec Baroni (3775421)

Showing the City in the wacky way that local residents should… No more racial, social, controversial Pollution!

Key ideas and Themes for artwork:

The morphing and altering of images has always been a passion of mine, and I love to see the world through a “zaney” sense. The city has many features which I have always loved, and I want to show people those in a way that will capture the viewers attention and influence them.

Influences:

My influences in the making of my folio, are works like the scream, and Salvatore Dali’s melting clocks, whilst combined with the beautiful cityscape, and niche treasures that can be found in the city, were in my eyes, just begging to be “exploited” for what they really are. I love the surreal artworks, and wish that the world was more “Surreal”, so with the use of various computer tools I will create my “Ideal world”.

Key themes/messages to be conveyed:

The city of Melbourne has been quite a controversial topic of late, and the words thrown around the media indicate the newly adopted term of social pollution, and the race wars, which are happening in the “back alleys and laneways”. The problem that I see is that people are forgetting the cities beauty and not seeing it the way it should be seen. I venture to show the city in its key points through a series of images showing the Cities beautiful features in a retro/warped way.

Format to be presented:

The final folio will be presented in a slide show, comprising of the set of images which will be “created” over the current semester (10 weeks)

Applications and techniques that will be used:

The applications and techniques I will use will follow the class topics, on text, Illustrator, Photoshop and Photography. The images that I use will be a mixture of creative commons, and my own personal photographs.

Please enjoy and i'll look forward to more blogging next week!!!!

Week Three

Hello Again!!!

More artwork today, looking at the digital media in the PHONE art, where we viewed videos completely shot on mobile phones, and mobile phone "Orchestras", all very creative and interesting!!!!

Looking myself more into my own art pieces, where I have now almost embedded the idea of city, architecture, building and moods into my pieces. As the previous work showed more of a dirty side of the city, this next image is more of the changing, growing, new modern city, and the changes that will come from the ever evolving world.

This New image that I have create was taken from the top of Eureka Tower with my son "Nose pressed up against the window", taken from my mobile phone, has been edited and warped to show the City in a beautiful almost "Blue print" look. The addition of the moons show that the city is changing, but staying the same, and the blackened silhouette of my son shows that the city is likely to develop and grow as he will too....

Check the image below, and i'll be back next week!!

Week two

Week two already, and the question that is circling my head is... "What topic am I going to base my art project on?"

Looking through the thousands of photo's that I have archived on my laptop i've seen a common theme with a few - relating to architecture and structural images.. whether or not I can warp, or add effects to these to enhance them.

I've had a look around for some images which can further my inquiry, check out the below links to

Nevertheless onto the lesson stuff...
Personalizing the mac.. (VIVA LA PC!!)
then onto the Adobe illustrator - shapes, text, and basic functions have now all been gone over, and i'm feeling more confidant at using the software!

On to the lesson on illutrator!!

"Social Pollution" is a warped image of Melbourne which has a biplane carrying a message about the above mentioned issue, which is relevant to the problems of today

Week 1 - Intro Class

Hey,

First class of Uni now completed and one of the tasks which is to be completed for the ACF2001 Art Class is a Digital Art Diary -in the form of a BLOG.
This is my first BLOG on this blog - not to mention my first ever blog!

Within this blog we were instructed to outline and provide a link to one of the artworks which we have viewed on the RHIZOME art page.

The artwork which I viewed was Titled

Buy & Sell Time (from Silicon Valley)

by Gustavo Romano (http://rhizome.org/object.php?49448)

This is an artwork which has been created via a series of photos which depict an appropriation of the EBAY logo, and within a man holding a laptop, and a sign which reads "BUY AND SELL TIME"

The purpose of this artwork is to portray a hypothetical scenario where you may have one day, one hour, one minute left to live what would you do, and how would you value certain things which you do/use your time in the form of an EBAY Auction.

Unfortunately the EBAY auction has ended and thus is no longer able to be viewed, it poses a meaningful message to the viewer.
